Numerical application of the mode matching technique to the longitudinal impedance computation in particle accelerators / Biancacci, N (CERN) ; Passarelli, A (INFN, Naples)
The accurate knowledge of the beam coupling impedance in particle accelerators is important in order to address potential impedance-driven instabilities and for planning machine upgrades. While simple models exist for various components (e.g., beam pipes, step transitions, and collimators), they are often insufficient to correctly describe the overall machine impedance with the necessary precision. Irradiation tests of the OBDTv1 board at CHARM / CMS DT Collaboration
The CMS Muon Drift Tube (DT) chambers require an upgrade oftheir on-detector electronics for operation in the High LuminosityLHC (HL-LHC) due to increased radiation, occupancy and triggerrates. The new On-Detector Board for Drift Tubes (OBDT) digitizesdrift signals with a resolution of 0.8 ns and transmits them viahigh-speed optical links into the counting room, where the fulldetector information will be available to perform the trigger andevent building logic. Safety at HL-LHC IT String during construction, commissioning, and operation / Bozzini, D (CERN) ; Bajko, M (CERN) ; Ballarino, A (CERN) ; Blanchard, S (CERN) ; Gascon, J (CERN) ; Heredia, N (CERN) ; Onufrena, A (CERN) ; Perin, A (CERN) ; Rodriguez Mateos, F (CERN) ; Yammine, S (CERN) et al.
The HL-LHC IT String, a test facility for the major components of the HL-LHC Inner Triplet, is currently in its construction and commissioning phases in a surface building at CERN. The primary motivation of the HL-LHC IT String is to study and validate the collective behaviour of its different subsystems which include mainly: the inner triplet superconducting magnets and their correctors, a novel superconducting link, the cryogenics infrastructure for the cooling and quench recovery, the powering and quench protection systems, and the remote alignment system. On the improved performances of FLUKA v4-4.0 in out-of-field proton dosimetry / Şerban, Alexandra-Gabriela (CERN ; Bucharest U. ; Bucharest, IFIN-HH) ; González, Juan Alejandro de la Torre (Granada U. ; Unlisted, ES) ; Anguiano, Marta (Granada U. ; Unlisted, ES) ; Lallena, Antonio M. (Granada U. ; Unlisted, ES) ; Salvat-Pujol, Francesc (CERN)
A new model for the nuclear elastic scattering of protons below 250 MeV has been recently included in FLUKA v4-4.0, motivated by the evaluation of radiation effects in electronics. Nonetheless, proton nuclear elastic scattering plays a significant role also in proton dosimetry applications, for which the new model necessitated an explicit validation. [...]

Access to diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy technologies for patients with cancer in the Baltic countries, eastern Europe, central Asia, and the Caucasus: a comprehensive analysis / Dosanjh, Manjit (Oxford U. ; Unlisted, US) ; Gershan, Vesna (IAEA, Vienna) ; Wendling, Eugenia C (Unlisted, US) ; Khader, Jamal S (Unlisted, JO) ; Ige, Taofeeq A (Unlisted, NG) ; Ristova, Mimoza (Skopje U.) ; Hugtenburg, Richard (Swansea U. (main)) ; Georgieva, Petya (CERN) ; Coleman, C Norman (Unlisted, US) ; Pistenmaa, David A (Unlisted, US) et al.
Only 10–40% of patients with cancer in low-income and middle-income countries were able to access curative or palliative radiotherapy in 2015. We aimed to assess the current status of diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy services in the Baltic countries, eastern Europe, central Asia, and the Caucasus by collecting and analysing local data..

Study on discharge and short circuit generation in CMS GE1/1 triple-GEM detectors during Run 3 / CMS GEM Group of the Collaboration
The installation of the new GE1/1 station of Gas ElectronMultiplier (GEM) detectors in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS)experiment was completed during the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) phase ofthe Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The GE1/1 station has beenoperational in the CMS detector since the beginning of the Run-3data-taking phase, and for the first time the GEM technology wasdeployed on a large scale, comprised of 144 chambers and tested inrunning conditions as integral part of the CMS data acquisition, reconstruction, and analysis chain. This work studies the suitability of a set of different materials for manufacturing of more efficient and durable Radio-Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) structures compared to that currently used in many linear particle accelerators, traditionally made out of copper. RFQs are susceptible to vacuum breakdowns caused by the exposure to high electric fields, resulting in surface degradation. [...]
