Design of a Level-1 Long-Lived Particle Trigger in the CMS Hadron Calorimeter
/ Kopp, Gillian Baron (Princeton U.) ; Tully, Christopher (Princeton U.) ; Chung, Wonyong Paul (Princeton U.) ; Kennedy, Kiley Elizabeth (Princeton U.) ; Hoienko, Svitlana (Princeton U.) ; Mans, Jeremiah Michael (Minnesota U.) ; Krohn, Michael David (Minnesota U.) ; Crossman, Bryan James (Minnesota U.) ; Hiltbrand, Joshua (Baylor U.) ; Skuja, Andris (Maryland U.) et al.
The Hadron Calorimeter (HCAL) in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was recently upgraded for Run 3 to introduce depth segmentation and online timing measurements, expanding the physics capabilities. In particular, the augmentation of the calorimeter information at the hardware trigger level enables quick identification and recording of long-lived particle decays using lower thresholds on energy-based event quantities. Run 3 performance and advances in heavy-flavor jet tagging in CMS
/ Sarkar, Uttiya (Aachen, Tech. Hochsch.)
/CMS Collaboration
Identification of hadronic jets originating from heavy-flavor quarks is extremely important to several physics analyses in High Energy Physics, such as studies of the properties of the top quark and the Higgs boson, and searches for new physics. Recent algorithms used in the CMS experiment were developed using state-of-the-art machine-learning techniques to distinguish jets emerging from the decay of heavy flavour (charm and bottom) quarks from those arising from light-flavor (udsg) ones. Ensuring Clock Phase Repeatability by Preventing Loss of the 40.078 MHz Clock in Time-Critical Detectors: A Non-disruptive Clock Switching Approach
/ Loukas, Nikitas (Notre Dame U.) ; Moreno, L ; Anderson, T ; Cucciati, Giacomo (Notre Dame U.) ; Eberle, Zachariah (Minnesota U.) ; Goadhouse, Stephen David (Virginia U.) ; Gorski, Thomas (Wisconsin U., Madison) ; Svetek, Ales (Wisconsin U., Madison)

At LHC phase 2, the CMS detector electronics require precise and accurate timing to discriminate pileup events. The upgraded Back-End electronics of the barrel Electromagnetic Calorimeter supply the required high-precision clock (Time Interval Error $\sigma <$ 5 ps) to the Front-End. [...]
